Snow Cleanup Continues Throughout Town

DPW crews continue to clear sidewalks, push back snowbanks and widen roads.

Crews from Chelmsford’s DPW/Highway Division continue to work throughout town with staff and hired contractors to push back snow banks/intersections, to widen roads and to clear sidewalks in each section of town. There are 230 miles of road, more 600 roads with approximately 1,200 intersections/corners within Chelmsford.

Due to the frequency of storms, significant amount of snowfall the town received, officials say this process gets interrupted and restarts with every new storm.

Snow removal has commenced in sections of town with staff and hired equipment and is expected to occur over the next few days as conditions allow. This process may occur overnight and during the day depending on the location. The initial focus is Chelmsford Center, Vinal Square and main road intersections.

When widening roads, snow may be pushed into resident’s driveways. The town has plows following our loaders and hired loaders to clear snow from driveways (approx. 12,000). There may be a temporary inconvenience as the plows may be behind the equipment widening the roads.

Sidewalks are being cleared with two machines in accordance with the town’s clearing policy, but due to the amount of snow and the frequency of the storms, the process is behind. The machines are working two shifts in an effort to remove the snow from the sidewalks.
