Susan G. Komen Massachusetts Presents the 23nd Annual Race for the Cure

Race for the Cure is a family-friendly event honoring breast cancer survivors. Register today at KomenMass.org.

Susan G. Komen Massachusetts® invites Massachusetts residents to join them at their 23rd annual Race for the Cure® on Sunday, September 27, presented locally by Aetna. The Race will be returning to Boston’s DCR Carson Beach for the second year. Registration options are available for adults and children.

“The Race for the Cure provides an opportunity to celebrate survivorship, honor those who have lost their battles, and impact local residents by raising funds to support education, screening and treatment programs right here in our state,” says Anne Morris, CEO of Komen Massachusetts. “With Massachusetts having the second highest incidence of breast cancer in the U.S., Race is the perfect platform to empower Massachusetts residents to join the breast cancer movement and local fight to end breast cancer forever.”

This year’s Race campaign model is two-year breast cancer survivor Lindsay McGloughlin; a wife, mother, and full time firefighter and paramedic. When Lindsay was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 28, her life was turned upside down. “But through tragedy comes strength and beauty,” said McGloughlin. “Komen Massachusetts has so many different programs to help women affected by breast cancer, as well as their families. Some people think they simply make a donation and a percentage goes to breast cancer research. Komen Massachusetts is so much more than that.”

The day’s events include a 5k walk and certified 5k road race sponsored by New Balance, the Aetna survivor breakfast and parade and, a Kids Fun Run, as well as informational booths and giveaways from event sponsors and vendors. Participants can even register to ‘Sleep in for the Cure’ if they are unable to attend but still wish to raise funds to support the local fight against breast cancer.

Events like Race for the Cure are vital to ensure Komen Massachusetts can continue to make a difference in the lives of our mothers, daughters, sisters and friends. Its largest fundraising event, Race for the Cure allows the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen® to continue to fund local grant programs that provide education, screening and treatment as well as groundbreaking research. To date, Massachusetts has invested more than $68 million in Massachusetts-based organizations, and an additional $26 million in research throughout the Commonwealth.
