DRACUT, MA — Dracut police are asking the public's help finding a suspect who vandalized four vehicles and a wall by painting swastikas Sunday. The vandalism happened during the early morning hours on Scott Street, Wheeler Road and New Boston Road in Dracut, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dracut police at 978-957-2123. Also on Sunday, similar vandalism incidents were reported nearby in Methuen.
"On Scott Street, a swastika was spray painted on a car door, and another one was spray painted on a vehicle," Dracut police Chief Peter Bartlett said in a statement. "A third swastika was found on a wall on New Boston Road at Aurelie Road. On Wheeler Road, a vehicle's license plate was painted black and a bumper sticker and the logo of a vehicle at St. Francis Parish were defaced."
Barlett continued, “The swastika is a form of hate speech and its presence in our community is offensive. I am saddened that this community is now faced with this type of investigation and we will be vigilant in the pursuit of those responsible."
