LOWELL, MA – A third arrest has been made in connection with the fatal shooting of a Lowell man last year, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said. Joseph McGillicuddy, 22, of Lowell, was arrested Wednesday after he was indicted on a murder charge in the death of 24-year-old Anthony Luna earlier this month.

On February 17, 2018, officers responded to a report of a shooting on O'Connell Street and Fay Street. Two men, 21-year-old Christian Tripp-Kirwin and 21-year-old Joseph Luna, both of Lowell, were caught near Gorham and Lundberg streets fleeing the scene, authorities said.

The DA's office did not say whether Anthony Luna and Joseph Luna were related but said the men knew the victim. Police also found a weapon, though it was not used to shoot Anthony Luna, according to the DA.

Tripp-Kirwin and Luna were charged with possession of a firearm without a license. The investigation into the shooting continued, and McGillicuddy was directly indicted by a grand jury March 7, the DA said.

McGillicuddy was arrested on Ames Hill Road in Tewksbury. He will be arraigned on a murder charge Thursday afternoon.
