Town of Chelmsford Gets $5,000 in Grants for Roof Inspections, Environmental Compliance

As part of its commitment to safety and controlling costs, the Town of Chelmsford was rewarded a $2,500 loss control grant to implement a roof inspection program, and a $2,600 grant for environmental compliance training.

Roof inspections and repairs to town buildings will help prevent leaks caused from ice dams and other weather issues that can cause costly interior damage, mold and indoor air quality problems if left unattended. In addition, Department of Public Works employees will participate in environmental compliance training to help ensure the town meets important environmental regulatory requirements and avoids financial penalties.

“The roof inspection grant helps protect the town’s investment in its municipal buildings, while preventing any adverse health effects from arising,” said Town Manager Paul Cohen. “The environmental compliance training will assist in the DPW’s efforts to protect water quality, wetlands, and workplace safety.”

Chelmsford received the grants from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), which provides property and casualty insurance to the town. MIIA awards loss control grants to its member municipalities to fund equipment purchases and implement training programs that address safety and loss prevention issues. These proactive efforts help protect the town, its employees and citizens by avoiding accidents and potentially costly claims.
