UMass Lowell To Auction Off 34-Acre Chelmsford Campus In April

The land is about a mile and a half from the main campus and zoned for residential development

CHELMSFORD, MA – An auction of the University of Massachusetts Lowell's west campus in Chelmsford has been set for April, according to the Boston Business Journal. The 34-acre land parcel is located about a mile and a half from the main campus and zoned for single-family residences.

Last summer, the governor signed legislation clearing the sale. The school is looking to consolidate on its main campus as part of its 10-year-old strategic plan, a UMass Lowell official told the Business Journal.

The land was initially used for its graduate school of education but has since become a spot for snow storage, the Business Journal reported. UMass has owned the land since the mid-1980s, when it was given to the school for $1.
