Van Liew Seeks Seat on the Finance Committee

Town Moderator Richard DeFreitas will appoint someone to the empty Finance Committee seat.

Roland Van Liew, the man behind the last August and the author of numerous criticizing local officials, has inquired about a seat on the Finance Committee.

Town Moderator Richard DeFreitas will appoint someone to that seat on the committee sometime toward the end of the year.

"I have received an inquiry but no formal application as yet. There is no urgency to fill that vacancy since Fin Com will have prepared the Fall Warrant by September 30," said DeFreitas. "I will strive to make an appointment by the end of calendar 2011. I hope to fill the vacancy with the best possible candidate. All applicants will be given the same courtesy and scrutiny that the position requires."

DeFreitas said the term of this vacancy expires at the end of June 2012.

"It is a perfect opportunity for someone to 'test the waters' before applying and committing to a full three-year term beginning next July 2012," he said. "I welcome all candidates... this not a political appointment; the applicant must be qualified and committed to serve."

Anyone else interested in applying for the position can contact Richard DeFreitas at redef@autobusicon.com. Applicants should include a statement, with information as to the candidate's background information that you feel qualifies you to serve on the board.
