Windsoul Studio first to bring Yoga aimed at guys to area- Broga(R) more than just a catchy marketing name!

Windsoul among the first in the area to offer a licensed Broga Instructor offering Yoga geared to guys.

Yoga Alliance Registered & Trained Broga® Yoga Instructor Chuck Raffoni, is excited to bring this new offering to Windsoul Studio in Tyngbsoro, MA with hopes that it will inspire more men to benefit from yoga. “The Broga approach is really unique and a great compliment to my other classes,” Raffoni says. “The classes combine traditional power yoga with functional fitness exercises. The result is a practice that builds muscle, improves flexibility, reduces risk of injury, relieves stress and improves balance. Pro athletes practice yoga regularly. Broga brings that kind of fitness-based yoga to the masses with classes designed for people who can’t touch their toes but still need this kind of training. Once people realize it’s not just a catchy marketing phrase but a carefully planned out program, they see the value beyond a traditional yoga class! Our class does not exclude women but recognizes that guy’s bodies and psyches are different and we approach it from that perspective first. In the same way some women prefer a female only gym, Broga is for the guy who prefers to hear music he likes and cues and words he is familiar with so he can focus on the movement and not decoding the yogic language. The studio provides mats, changing areas and has hydrating drinks available , all they have to do is show up! ”

Nationally, the average yoga class is dominated by women, with men accounting for only 15-20% of the students, but about 1 in 3 (46 million) men say they intend to try yoga in the next 12 months, according to an analysis based on a Yoga Journal study. Broga® Yoga, founded in Massachusetts, was developed to make yoga more appealing, accessible, and beneficial for these men.

Though Broga is “optimized for guys” it should be noted that women are more than welcome. In fact, many women appreciate the unique strength elements and strenuous cardio aspects of Broga. “Broga students range in age from 18 to 78,” says Broga® Yoga President & Co-Founder, Adam O’Neill. “They come from all walks of life, all different backgrounds, but they all come looking for what we offer; that unique blend of high-intensity strength workout with the incredible “yoga” benefits such as balance, flexibility, improved circulation, injury reduction, stress-reduction, and many others.”

Recognizing that most men’s resistance to yoga stems from social stigma and/or past experiences in yoga classes, Broga is designed to be simple, fun, challenging, and rewarding. There’s no Sanskrit, or “groovy heart talk,” or chanting – classes are straight-forward, physical, accessible, taught in regular English, and accompanied by a distinct soundtrack of “awesome” music. “We’ve got guys that have been to well over 300 classes, which is awesome, but it’s also really exciting to see the response among new students right after they take that first class,” remarks Broga Creator and Co-Founder Robert Sidoti. “The Broga practice is definitely addictive and it’s a tremendous complement to whatever other fitness routines our students are doing.”

Broga® Yoga Co-founders Adam O’Neill and Robert Sidoti, both athletes, family guys, and yoga enthusiasts saw a great deal of resistance to yoga among their buddies. So one of them, personal trainer and certified yoga instructor, Robert Sidoti, started offering classes at a local community center that he called “Broga”, highlighting the sense of humor that plays a big part in a Broga® Class. The name stuck, the classes evolved, and now, four years later, Broga is getting major national and international press attention and affiliations with Reebok, Crunch Fitness and American Council of Exercise.

“The community we are building Thursday Nights at 6:15 p.m at Windsoul is really exciting” says Studio Co-Owner Gail Lachs. “Men of all ages and levels of fitness, come together and encourage each other. They carve out and look forward to that one hour a week for themselves to benefit their overall health. Broga® fits right in line with what we hope to offer with our center . Interestingly , It’s also proven to be a great night out for couples, it‘s been the offering that has finally convinced some of the women to get their guys to join them for a yoga class.“
