Wrong-way driver charged with OUI in Chicopee (newportdispatch.com) ā A wrong-way, suspected impaired driver on I-91 near Chicopee crashed into a state police cruiser and another car, injuring a trooper, his K-9, and another motorist, all expected to recover. State Police say this is the third recent wrong-way crash involving a trooper and are stressing the dangers of impaired driving and their commitment to enforcement.

FDA Recalls and Warnings: Generic Adderall XR Mix-Up, Subpotent Levothyroxine, Moringa Supplements Tainted with Salmonella (medshadow.org) ā A Chicopee-based supplement maker, Trafa Pharmaceutical, is recalling a large batch of organic moringa leaf powder that may be contaminated with Salmonella, as part of a wider national moringa recall. The FDA notice also details several unrelated nationwide recalls of prescription drugs, including generic Adderall XR, levothyroxine, cinacalcet, and a glucagon emergency kit. Local residents using these products should double-check lot numbers with their pharmacists. Ā Ā Ā

Jackpot fever: Over $1 billion in lottery prizes up for grabs (wwlp.com) ā From Chicopee, residents are being reminded that tonightās Powerball, Mega Millions, and state Megabucks drawings together top a billion dollars in potential prizes, including a record Megabucks jackpot. Firearm seized, two arrested after Springfield chase (wwlp.com) ā A Springfield police chase tied to several recent city shootings ended with two arrests and a loaded firearm recovered, and one suspect still facing open firearms charges in Chicopee District Court. Officers say the driver allegedly rammed another vehicle while fleeing before running off on foot, while the passenger was found with marijuana packaged for sale and a gun under his seat. Charles Ted Cooke, 80 (portcitydaily.com) ā Chicopee readers may note that Charles Ted Cooke, whose life is honored in this obituary, served at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee during and after his Vietnam deployment before a long engineering and small-business career. The 80-year-old Texas native later settled in Massachusetts and then North Carolina, where he and his wife became known for award-winning Mobil stations and prize-winning roses.
