Vieau announces new chief HR officer; Chicopee City Council tables appointment until further scrutiny (thereminder.com) — Chicopee may soon have a new chief human resources officer, as Mayor John Vieau has appointed resident Bianca Janeczek to the role while the City Council delays its final vote for more scrutiny. She’ll start work on a 90-day basis Aug. 10 while councilors review her candidacy, hoping to bring stability after several short-lived HR chiefs and past departmental turmoil.

Second Chance Community Pet Vaccine Clinic Slated for Sept. 11 in Chicopee (healthcarenews.com subscription) — Chicopee pet owners can now register for a low-cost Second Chance Animal Services vaccine clinic for cats and dogs on Friday, Sept. 11, at Teddy Bear Pools & Spas on East Street. 3. 50 Chicopee senior apartments to receive free internet through state-funded program (wwlp.com) — Fifty senior apartments at Dom Narodowy Polski in downtown Chicopee are getting free high-speed internet, laptops, and digital skills training through a state-funded broadband retrofit program. With POAH covering service costs, residents will pay nothing for access, helping them connect to telehealth, education, and family while Chicopee benefits from a share of $74 million in statewide connectivity upgrades.
4. Food Bank of Western Mass. seeks help as fuel costs rise (wwlp.com) — From its Chicopee base, the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts is warning that soaring diesel prices are straining its ability to deliver food to pantries and mobile sites across four counties. With fuel costs up about 40 percent, the organization is urging residents to donate so trucks can keep making thousands of miles of deliveries to families who still face high living expenses.
