Apple Picking with Apple Valley Montessori School

Apple picking field trip for our kid's school

Today the Elementary and Primary students boarded a bus and headed to Honey Pot Orchards in Stow, MA.  What a wonderful day for our annual apple picking adventure.  The weather was quintessential New England fall:  a crispness in the air with bright blue sky.  When we got to the farm—to the delight of the children-- we took a hayride around the orchards.  The tractor let us off at an area of trees that grow smaller and lower to the ground.  These trees sprout apples at the perfect height for small children.  Each child set out to pick as many Macintosh apples as they could fit in their special apple bag.   The Elementary children plan on making baked apples for their upcoming camping venture.  The children in Primary have a tasty English recipe to try—it calls for slicing an apple in half; putting in spices and then wrapping pie dough around it before baking.

Before we left the Orchards we all were treated to apple cider and apple cider donuts.

We returned to school, arms filled with bags of apples and minds filled with stories of the day to share at home over fresh baked apple crisp.
