Barrett adds prison impact money

Sen. Mike Barrett successfully offered an amendment to mitigate the cost Concord incurs for providing services to state-operated correctional facilities.

As part of a marathon budget debate on the Senate floor, State Sen. Mike Barrett successfully offered an amendment securing funds to mitigate the cost Concord incurs for providing services to two state-operated correctional facilities within the town.

“Both facilities benefit from local services,” Barrett says.  “The amendment makes sure Concord is compensated fairly for providing fire, police and other services when needed.  Because identical language made it into the House version, the appropriation should pass in conference committee, and the relief will kick in.”

Barrett’s amendment, supported by State Senator Jen Flanagan (D-Leominster), State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) and State Senator Marc Pacheco (D-Taunton), allocates funding to other communities that house correctional facilities as well.
