Joyce Maynard Speaks at a Local Book Store

Joyce Maynard Speaks at a Local Book Store

I first heard of Joyce Maynard when she was promoting her first book "Looking Back" on the Today Show back in 1974. She pronounces her name "ma 'nard," rather than as we do the local town, Maynard, or "may nard."

I actually read the book because as she was only one year ahead of me in school and, because she grew up in the Boston area, I could identify with many of the experiences she wrote about. Over the later 70s I heard her commentary spots on CBS news radio and then she disappeared.

She reappeared in recent times as a world-class author. Her book, "To Die For," roughly based on the Pam Smart case, was made into a popular movie several years ago. She appeared at the store in Acto to talk about her book that she released 4 years ago, "Labor Day" that is currently being produced as a movie with major shooting going on at a home in Acton. The movie stars Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet. See the Video: https://vimeo.com/47217793
