C-C Boys' Lacrosse Takes First Game of Coaches Cup
Patriots defeat Hingham, 11-6, thanks to another stellar second period.

There’s something about the second quarter and the boys’ lacrosse team. For the second straight game, the Patriots fueled a victory with a stellar performance in the game’s second period.
Leading by a single goal after one quarter against Hingham High School in their Coaches Cup game at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, C-C broke out for five unanswered before halftime. The Patriots carried the momentum through the second for an 11-6 victory and move on in the annual tournament’s winners’ bracket.
“We just played great in the second quarter,” C-C coach Tom Dalicandro said. “It starts with faceoffs, we win a majority of the faceoffs, and we play really solidly defensively, especially in the middle of the field. We give up few easy opportunities.”

In their last game, an 11-2 victory of Arlington on Thursday, the Patriots (6-0) effectively put the game away with six unanswered goals in the second period.
This time, Dalicandro said, Seth Bird was the catalyst of the offensive outbreak. He created opportunities for teammates and cash in on chances he made for himself, Dalicandro said.

“Seth had a monster quarter for us,” the coach said of Bird, who finished a monster performance with four goals and three assists. “He really created a lot of offensive opportunities for us on the offensive side of the ball.”
C-C led 7-1 at halftime and held off a late Hingham rally, thanks, in part, to the play of goalie Doug Gouchoe, who had nine saves and defender Michael Anastos. The latter was tasked with shutting down Hingham’s best offensive player, a job he thoroughly completed, Dalicandro said.
Back on the offensive side, Ben Lesser and Max Carroll had two goals apiece, while Max Barrett, Jackson Finigan and Mike O’Brien added one goal each. Lesser also had an assist.
“We sound lacrosse and just got some opportunities on offense,” Dalicandro said.
C-C moves on in Coaches Cup play to take on Andover High School on Thursday. A win in that game will earn the Patriots a spot in the tournament’s final, which takes place Saturday. All games are played at Lincoln-Sudbury.
