C-C Golf Starts Season Off Right
Patriots record victories in first two road matches of the season; will open home schedule on Thursday.
The golf team is off to a strong start this fall season, having won its first two matches of the year, a dual meet with Wayland High School on Sept. 7 and a first-place finish in a Dual County League tri-match on Wednesday.
On both occasions, the Patriots had seven of eight members of the starting lineup record double-digit point totals in the Modified Stableford format. Under the scoring system, varying amounts of points are awarded for bogeys, pars and birdies.
“Our team depth is strong, which is a testament to how hard everyone worked over the summer to prepare for the season by playing tournament golf, so they really hit the ground running,” said of his squad’s stellar early-season showings. “We have a great deal of work to do in all areas, but the leadership and makeup of this team certainly looks strong so far.”

On Wednesday, the Patriots scored 110 points to best Lincoln-Sudbury Regional (97) and Newton South High (89) at Newton Commonwealth Golf Course. It was C-C’s second straight road match to start the season.
Senior tri-captain Ryan Harris paced the Patriots in the DCL tri-match with 18 points. Fellow senior and captain Andrew Wester tied sophomore Drew Benshoff for second on the team with 16 points. Junior Karolyne Shieh added 15 points, while Ben Crosby had a career-high 13 points to continue what Gibson called strong early-season play for the sophomore.

C-C opened the season on Sept. 7 by besting Wayland High 96-89 at Sandy Burr Country Club.
Shieh and Benshoff led the Patriots with 15 points apiece. Harris and Wester added 14 each, while senior tri-captain Kevin Delehey carded 12 points. Crosby recorded a birdie on the 9th and final hole to record 11 points — his best showing at the time — and junior Patrick O’Brien had 10 points.
“It was good to open with a road win against a quality program like Wayland at a place we haven't won in a few years,” Gibson said. “We talked before the match about valuing every shot, and I think they responded with great focus despite the wet conditions.”
Concord-Carlisle returns to the course to open its home schedule on Thursday. The Patriots will host Waltham High and Bedford High in a non-league tri-match. After that, they will head back to the road for a DCL tri-match with Weston High and Westford Academy on Tuesday.
