"Scandinavian Christmas Fair — Saturday, November 14, 10am–3pm at Concord Middle School, 923 Old Marlboro Road, Concord, MA....

The Concord Orchestra presents “Dancing in Disguise” at 8:00pm on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18 at 2:30pm at the Performing Arts Center at 51 Walden. The orchestra, conducted by Music Director Zeke Fetrow, performs music by Anna Clyne, Garbriel Fauré, and Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky. A pre-concert talk is scheduled for 7:15pm on Saturday.
Clyne’s short composition, Masquerade (2013), was inspired by pleasure gardens in London in the 18th century, where people gathered in the summer to experience masquerade balls, fireworks, and performances of music, dance, acrobatics, and theater. 
The four movements of Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande Suite were selected from incidental music he composed for a play. The Sicilienne movement is one of Fauré’s most easily recognized and best-loved works.
Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 3 “Polish” gets its nickname from the polonaise rhythm in its finale. It was written slightly before Swan Lake&nbsp;and contains some similar musical themes and delightful dance rhythms.
Two of the acts of&nbsp; famous choreographer George Balanchine’s Jewels (1967), a ballet in three acts with each act representing a gemstone, are set to music from Pelléas and Mélisande
(Emeralds) and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 3 (Diamonds).

Peggy is Chair and Professor of Sociology and the Mildred Lane Kemper Chair of Sociology at Wellesley College. Artisans Way

Artisans Way in Concord center welcomes artists Victoria and Lawrence Elbroch on Sunday, October 18 from 12-5pm.Their show, “Under the Branches,” combines Victoria’s printmaking and drawing, and Lawrence’s photography. They attribute their collaborative work to their loving relationship and a shared inspiration. Reveling in their different ways of seeing ancient trees, Victoria draws in a sketchbook plein air and Lawrence takes photographs from the same angle. The two forms of a single image are then expertly blended to arrive at one unique, composite view of their individual interpretations. These are the pieces that are especially featured in the “Under the Branches” collection debuting at Artisans Way.
Born in England, Victoria emigrated to America in 1973. She studied printmaking at the University of Oklahoma, spending three years working with master printmaker, Loraine Moore. She specializes in mixed media drawing with ink and collage and two printmaking mediums, monotype, and photopolymer etching. She has won numerous awards for her prints and drawings and was awarded the 2019 Piscataqua Artist’s Advancement Grant.Since receiving the grant, she has spent time in the UK drawing meticulously researched ancient trees. She is a member of Zea Mays Printmaking Studio, The Boston Printmakers, and The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.
Lawrence Elbroch, born in New York City, is self-taught photographer with strong technical skills. His interest in texture, shadow and light has carried over into the printmaking medium. Lawrence’s work has been published in Artscope Magazine (March/April 2023) and Photographer's Forum Magazine annual “Best of Photography” edition multiple times. He has received awards for his work including a commendation from the Sony World Photography Awards.
In addition to the UK, Lawrence and Victoria have traveled extensively to places including India, Tibet, and Nepal. These travels have led to more collaborative works where her drawings are meshed seamlessly into his photographs. 
To the Elbrochs, trees hold profound significance. The strange, gnarly bark and peculiar anatomy of ancient trees fire their imaginations and Victoria and Lawrence draw parallels between the trees and all they hold dear—wisdom, family, connections, shelter, and resilience. They hope that their work, beyond being beautiful, serves as a reminder of the crucial role trees play in the increasingly warming planet and that people will be intrigued enough to see trees and the natural world as their fellow inhabitants.
They will be in the gallery to talk about their work and answer questions. All their work will be 10% off October 18 only. Steve Edwards was diagnosed with autism in his mid-thirties, altering his relationship to writing and family. He discovered what he had always known but never said: His compulsion to create was more than just a pursuit of self-expression. Faced with a mix of belief and disbelief from those who knew him, and full of questions himself, he committed to a new sense of wonder and pursuit of revelation.&nbsp;
​Rare Good offers insights into Edwards’s experience of the awe that only art, disability, and loved ones can bring. Raising a disabled child and delving into acknowledging his own mindedness, he explores the struggles of communicating and finding care, the joy of gathering as community, and the astonishing gifts that art and education offer us, especially when we acknowledge the contributions of disabled artists past and present. Drawing on times of heartbreak transformed into determination, Edwards describes his ongoing desire to find a way together. A singular work of lyric nonfiction, Rare Good is a reminder and balm for all who might feel different.&nbsp;
Bio
Steve Edwards is the author of the memoir Breaking into the Backcountry, the story of his seven months as caretaker of a remote homestead along the federally designated “Wild and Scenic Rogue River” in Oregon during the Margery Davis Boyden Wilderness Writing Residency. His second book Rare Good: Essays on Art, Autism, and Astonishment is forthcoming in October 2026. Steve's essays have most recently appeared in The Yale Review, The Sun, Orion Magazine, Literary Hub, and Longreads. His essay "Yellow Band" was one of the most-read prose works in The Yale Review in 2024. He is the recipient of a Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship in Fiction/Nonfiction. He was the 2025 writer-in-residence at the historic Concord Free Public Library. Steve lives in Metrowest Boston with his wife and son.
​Though the number astonishes him, Steve has been teaching college writing for twenty-five years, with stops along the way at Purdue University, Emerson College, Simmons College, and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and, for more than a decade, he has been a professor of English Studies at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. A highlight of his teaching career has been leading the original course Neurodiversity in Literature and Life at Tufts University's Experimental College. Steve has led workshops with 27 Powers and Larksong Writers Place.
