CCHS Girls' Hockey Comes From Behind for 2-1 Win over Waltham
Scoreless first, but two goals in third.
The Concord-Carlisle girls’ hockey team came back to beat Waltham High School 2-1 at the Edge Sports Center on Saturday night.
The first period was scoreless, although Waltham (2-11) tirelessly shot pucks at Concord-Carlisle goalie Michaela Haller. But the sophomore was up to the task, and kept the visitors off the scoreboard in the opening period.
“Michaela, she did a heck of a job,” said WHS coach Jack Heavey.

However, Concord-Carlisle, too, had trouble converting chances in the first period. The offensive drought continued well into the second.
The second period was seemingly going to finish scoreless as well, until Waltham senior captain Victoria Diblasi scored on a straight shot from the blue line with 36 seconds remaining.

The Patriots got going once the third period got under way. At 10:50 in the third, Patriot junior Greta White put Concord-Carlisle on the scoreboard to tie the game at 1-apiece.
“(White) beat us off a faceoff,” Heavey said. “She came in off the hash marks, wound up getting the puck on her stick and scored.”
Both teams’ offense was breaking through for close rummaging shots, but Haller and Waltham goalie Ally Longwell, an eighth-grader, were on their games and keeping pucks out of the nets.
Concord-Carlisle finally broke the tie with fewer than two minutes remaining in the game. At 1:41, Patriot junior Jenny Robinson pushed the puck through a clump of players and past Longwell to secure the 2-1 win for Concord-Carlisle.
“(Robinson) crashed the net. She’s a big strong kid.” said Heavey. “The puck just snuck through Ally’s pads. I thought she pushed it in with her hand, but the referee said she got part of it with her stick.
“We kept stressing that,” Heavey continued. “Nos. 13 and 15 – and those are the two kids who scored.”
Next up, Concord-Carlisle plays Newton South High School on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
