Concord $49.2M Infrastructure Project Receives Award

Route 2 project received a Bronze Award for an interchange that allows traffic to bypass an intersection between Concord and Lincoln.

CONCORD, MA – A $49.2 million infrastructure project between Concord and Lincoln is among seven construction initiatives across the state awarded by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts. The Route 2 reconstruction project received Bronze in the 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards competition, MassDOT announced Friday.

Projects were selected based upon uniqueness, originality, technical value to engineering, complexity and the extent to which they met the needs of the community.

"We are proud to be recognized for the success and importance of these important projects," Transportation Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack said in a statement. "We thank the MassDOT staff and personnel as well as the consultants, contractors, elected and local officials, and members of the public who played in role in developing and completing these projects and helping serve the needs of these local communities."

The Route 2 project reconstructed a section from Bedford Road in Lincoln to Sandy Pond Road in Concord and added a four-lane bridge to replace a signalized intersection. The addition carries Route 2 over the intersection and allows traffic to bypass.
