Concord-Carlisile Issue Statement About Underage Drinking, Vaping

The statement explained that this fall the district saw "a series of alcohol-related incidents both at and outside of school events."

CONCORD, MA — Concord and Carlisle issued a joint statement on Friday to remind parents and students of the regional district's dedication to keep students safe and healthy. The statement focused on alcohol use and vaping – two issued the district said it's become very familiar with this fall.

"This fall brought a series of alcohol-related incidents both at and outside of school events leading to unsafe situations that required police support," the statement reads.

The letter was signed by the regional superintendent, both Concord and Carlisle police chiefs and the Concord public health director. The letter urged parents to talk with their children about the dangers of underage drinking and highlighted that underage drinking leads to more deaths of young people than all other drugs combined.

The second half of the letter focused on vaping and how high schoolers could be influenced. To better educate parents and the community, on December 3, the speaker series regarding vaping continues in Bedford sponsored by the Concord, Carlisle and Bedford Boards of Health.

"In conjunction with the Concord and Carlisle Police Departments and the local Boards of Health, we will continue to develop student instructional programs, opportunities for parent information, and implementation of both proactive and deterring measures." the statement said in closing.
