Concord-Carlisle Remains Undefeated After Routing Lincoln-Sudbury 27-0

Running attack of Craan, Culbreth, and Badgley leads Patriots

Concord-Carlisle moved the ball well throughout the game, but could not break through in the first half against a gritty Warrior defense. The opening Patriot drive reached the Lincoln-Sudbury 25 yard line. But Warrior Captain Ricky Antonellis sacked Patriot quarterback Ryan Hoey on fourth down on what looked to be a momentum-changing play.

Matt Cahill started a strong first drive after the turnover completing passes to Greg Strait and Jack Harris for a Lincoln-Sudbury first down. The drive stalled at the Lincoln-Sudbury 46 yard line, however, and Will Twyman kicked the first of five punts for the game.

Concord-Carlisle spent most of the first half in Lincoln-Sudbury territory, but critical mistakes including a fumble near the end of the half kept the game scoreless. The Patriot three-headed running attack of George Craan, Tyquan Culbreth, and Tim Badgley ran for nearly 100 yards in the first half.

Lincoln-Sudbury’s offense looked to regroup in the second half, but poor field position and a physical, well-prepared Concord-Carlisle defense prevented the Warriors from getting anything going offensively. Concord-Carlisle’s offense took off in the second half starting with an eight play 53-yard drive culminating in a one-yard touchdown run by Craan for a 7-0 lead. After Lincoln-Sudbury was forced to punt again, the Patriots started on another eight play 51-yard drive highlighted by a 22-yard Craan run on 3rd down and 10. Craan finished the drive with another one-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 lead.

With 9:29 left in the final quarter, the Warriors were running out of opportunities to get back in the game. The offense stalled with another three and out series, and Concord-Carlisle punished Lincoln-Sudbury on the following drive with power runs from Craan and Culbreth. Concord-Carlisle started on their own 47 and moved deep into Lincoln-Sudbury territory. After holding and illegal procedure penalties gave the Patriots a second down and 19, Culbreth broke through for a 39-yard touchdown run to put the game out of reach with 6:31 to play.

Culbreth scored another touchdown on a 15-yard run to close out the scoring at 27-0 with 3:15 left. Lincoln-Sudbury’s offense never crossed the 50-yard line until the final play of the game.

“Our defense was sensational,” Patriot coach Mike Robichaud said. “Lincoln-Sudbury has a lot of weapons, and our defensive staff and players did a great job preparing during the week.”
