Concord Native Reaches Top Of Mount Everest

Jim Davidson reached the summit during a deadly weekend for climbers.

CONCORD, MA – A Concord native reached the summit of Mount Everest over the weekend, two years after an earthquake derailed his last attempt. Jim Davidson announced the feat on Facebook Sunday from the peak of the 29,035-foot mountain.

Davidson was born in West Concord and spent much of his life there before moving to Colorado a few years ago. In 2015, he was on a glacier about 19,900 feet up Mount Everest when a deadly earthquake struck Nepal, stranding him and other climbers at camp without gear to climb back down the mountain.

A helicopter flew them back to base camp two days later, but the expedition was over.

Davidson's accomplishment came amid an especially tragic weekend on Mount Everest, during which four climbers were killed. American Roland Yearwood, 50; Slovak climber Vladimir Strba, 50; Francesco Enrico Marchetti, 54, of Australia; and Indian climber Ravi Kumar, 27, all lost their lives, according to ABC. Six climbers have died on Everest so far during the spring climbing season.
