Concord PD Graduates First Citizens Academy Class

The 10-week academy showed members of community what officers and dispatchers do on a day-to-day basis.

CONCORD, MA – The Concord Police Department wrapped up its first year of the Citizens Police Academy, and by all accounts, it was a rousing success.

The first class graduated its first class Wednesday, after a 10-week course giving civilians a taste of what officers and dispatchers do on a day-to-day basis.

• New recruit training

• Officer safety

• Motor vehicle law

• Domestic violence

• D.A.R.E program

• Information on frauds/scams

• Explanations on use of force and Tasers

• Active shooter training

• Drunk driving

• "Shoot don’t shoot" patrol operations

"The academy is a great opportunity for residents to come into the station and learn about their police department," Chief O'Connor said in a statement earlier this year. "We're excited to offer this course to the public and encourage citizens to sign up."
