Concord Public Works Urges Residents to be Mindful of Water Useage
Concord Public Works urged residents to be aware of water usage, and provided tips to help residents conserve water.

From Concord Public Works
Memorial Day Weekend is upon us, along with higher summer temperatures and increased seasonal water use. Concord Public Works want to remind you to be mindful of excessive water use, especially outdoors. Your individual effort is imperative in ensuring that this increased seasonal demand does not exceed our available supply. Failure to use water efficiently can result in mandatory water use restrictions. Rainfall, such as that forecasted within the next few days, is the most preferred and cost effective method of outdoor watering available. If you determine you must use municipal water for outdoor purposes, please consider following the best management practices noted below, which can help reduce any excessive burden placed on the public water system.
Here are some helpful tips:

- Your lawn should be able to go without watering for 2-3 days, it could even be good for it
- If you push on your grass and it springs back up, it does not need water
- If you have to water, do so before the sun comes up so your lawn has time to absorb the water
- By saving water you are also saving electricity, reducing peak hourly demand
- Adjust your irrigation controller to operate 2x/week and direct sprinkler heads so that water is not wasted (do not point towards sidewalks or driveways)
- Please water your vegetable and flower gardens by hand
Concord Public Works is monitoring customer demand and available water supply around the clock and will provide additional information as it becomes available. Until we see a significant change in weather, our water supply and demand situation may remain tenuous. Until such time, your ability to do your part and reduce unnecessary outdoor water use will be encouraged and appreciated.
