Concord Snapshot: Business Recycling

Just before teeming rain began, Patch dropped by the public works' semi-annual Business Recycling event.

Rod Robison of the Concord Public Works recycling department stood in the vast parking lot at 300 Baker Avenue on Friday ushering cars and trucks to the rear lot where trucks from recycling companies picked up all manner of business products from paper, to fluorescent light bulbs to CRTs to microwave ovens to small refrigerators.

Robison said the popular event is a good way for Concord-area businesses to get rid of items that cannot be thrown away.

One staffer, Brendan Reagan, said the companies that used the service were smart to take advantage because of the EPA found light bulbs, for instance, in the trash, they could face a stiff fine.

Robison said another business recycling event will be in the spring of 2011. Companies had to pre-register to discard materials, and pay a small fee for disposal. In one truck, an enormous paper shredder made quick work of box after box of office papers.
