Eighth Grade Lax Team off to Strong Start
Concord Carlisle's A Town Pride League team recently defeated Andover to move to 5-1 on the season.
Concord Carlisle’s eighth grade A Town Pride League team (TPL8A) won its second game of the season against TPL newcomer, Andover, 9-4 bringing its season record to 5-1. The game was held on the at the high school on Saturday afternoon, April 30.
Clay Trussell started the Patriots off with a face-off groundball scoop and drive straight to the Andover goal at 0:07. Next, Will Blumenberg, who had four goals in the game, created an iso from the X position (directly behind the net) to score over the top with a high-to-low rip at 2:34 (see highlight #1). A few minutes later, Blumenberg made a strong defensive ground ball pick-up, cleared the ball to Standish who dumped a cross-crease pass to Arthur Gildehaus for a score from the edge of the island at 7:35.
At 13:18, Standish forced a turnover and passed to Blumenberg for Concord’s fourth goal. Of the ensuing face-off, Blumenberg won the scramble and marched down the field quickly for his third and the team’s fifth goal at 14:02.

A few minutes later, still in the first half, defenseman Patrick McNally forced a turnover, secured the ground ball, passed it to goalie Andrew Kielar who hit Jack Barrett in-stride running up the field, and who finally dished it to Standish at the crease for goal at 17:00. Next Barrett passed to Jack Lyne who made an excellent face-dodge and scored with a crank shot at 21:48 (see highlight #2). To end the first half at 8-1, Blumenberg scored another iso goal from X.
In the second half the scoring slowed down except for a well fought offensive play and groundball from Sam Costanza who swung the ball to Tom Large at the crease for a goal at 38:24.

The blanket defense of Clay Trussell, Liam Ford and McNally secured a near shut-out half while goalie Kielar stood strong in goal with seven saves and some aggressive groundball work outside the goal line extended (see highlight #3). McNally ended the day as ground ball king with Jules Stewart, Patrick O’Brien and Jimmy Faber also making notable ground ball pick-ups.
Concord’s next game is Friday, May 6 at 8 p.m. on the CCHS turf against Wellesley.
