Emerson Hospital Awarded National Distinction for Excellence in Patient Safety

Emerson Hospital has been honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, the score is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

The Hospital Safety Score was calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data this spring from more than 2,500 acute care hospitals nationwide on how well hospitals protect patient from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.

“Safety should come first for our families when we pick a hospital, because errors and infections are common and deadly,” said Leah Binder, president & CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “No hospital is perfect, but we congratulate the board, clinicians, administration and staff of Emerson Hospital for achieving an ‘A’ and showing us that you made the well-being of your patients your top priority.”

“We are extremely proud of this national distinction,” said Christine Schuster, president and CEO of Emerson Hospital. “It affirms not only our commitment to patient safety through clinical excellence complemented by compassionate care, but to transparency that provides critical safety information to the public and encourages continuous improvements in care.”

The Hospital Safety Score uses 28 evidence-based measures of hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. Hospitals were assigned an A, B, C, D, or F for their overall performance.
