Holy Family Parish in Concord, Massachusetts, will be hosting noted Scripture scholar and teacher, Celia Sirois, in a four week program on the Hebrew Scriptures / Old Testament at Holy Family Parish in Concord, MA. The course will be held on 4 Wednesdays at 7:30 PM – October 3, 10, 17 and 24 at the parish center in West Concord.
Of this course Celia writes: “The Books of Samuel lie at the center of the Deuteronomistic History. In these three sessions, we will uncover some of the many faces and facets of the story of David. Our goal will be to learn something about David’s historical situation, but even more, to discover the theological claim the inspired writers are making for David in this story.”
Celia has an M.A. from Providence College in Biblical Studies. She has taught courses both in the Hebrew Scriptures [Old Testament] and New Testament through CHRISM, Boston College, Blessed John XXIII Seminary, and Saint John’s Seminary in Brighton through the Master of Arts in Ministry program. The first three weeks will lead participants in a study of I and II Samuel using Robert Alter’s translation in The David Story [Norton, 1999]. Copies of this book are available in local bookstores including the Concord Book Shop.
