This Saturday there will be two exciting features to the Market, the second lesson in the series of “Forgotten Skills” cooking classes, and a Community Table manned by the New Entry Sustainability Project. The goal of this project is to create ‘Land Matches’, connecting farmers looking for good land to cultivate with landowners who would welcome the chance to see a portion of their property become productive. Learn more about this interesting and valuable effort. Become a participant. Brochures will be available.

And don’t miss “Quick Pickles” and “Lacto-fermentation” with Gallagher Hannan of Black Brook Farm, the second in the series of “Forgotten Skills” cooking classes. Learn to make delicious pickles without canning, and discover the ancient process of preserving the valuable nutrients in our foods using lacto-fermentation. Handouts will be available. The class will be held from 10 to 10:30, no registration needed. Bring these lost arts back into your kitchen.

At the Market you will find local farmers offering a surprising variety of fine late winter crops, both familiar and unusual, turnips, carrots, parsnips, cabbage, celeriac, onions and more. The Carlisle Cache provides produce and products from farmers throughout New England, including apples from Apex Orchard in MA, and oatmeal and cornmeal from Maine.

Enjoy fresh coffee and baked goods, browse the work of local artists and craftsmen, visit with friends and vendors, fortify yourself with hot soup from Black Brook Farm, and drop in on the fun and informative cooking class. Spring is in the air, and until it arrives, come support your local farmers, craftsmen, artists and food vendors at the market, from 9 to 1, in the First Religious Society’s Union Hall in the heart of Carlisle.
