This meeting of the Concord Area Humanists will be on Monday March 14, in the Emerson Room at First Parish, 20 Lexington Rd, Concord, behind the Wright Tavern.
It will be CAH's third session of Galen Guengerich's lecture series "The Necessity of Virtue". The topic this time will be "Compassion". We start the session by viewing about 30 minutes of a videotape presented by Galen Guengerich on the topic of compassion. Here is how Galen describes the session:
"Compassion is the outward expression of an inner awareness - an awareness of our own vulnerability. People who lack compassion foolishly believe that we are invincible, that they will never need anyone's help. For this reason, compassion is a leading indicator of moral strength. Compassion also recognizes that other people are dependent and needy as well, and that I am one of the people on whom they depend. Ultimately, compassion champions the kind of world we want to inhabit - a world where no one suffers needlessly."
