Sopranos Claudia Waterhouse and Cinda Nimmer will sing a duet recital on Sunday, April 29 as a prelude to the monthly Choral Evensong at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street in Concord. The prelude recital begins at 5 PM in Trinity's main sanctuary. Ms. Waterhouse and Ms. Nimmer will sing music by Heinrich Schütz, Claudio Monteverdi and George Frideric Handel, among others. They will be accompanied on Trinity's new Huntington Chamber Organ by music director, Robert Barney.
For the Choral Evensong, the Parish Choir will sing canticle settings by Thomas Attwood Walmisley (1813-1856) who worked in Croydon Parish and Trinity at Cambridge, England. The Responses are by Gerre Hancock (1934-2012) who served at St Thomas NYC from 1971-2004. The anthem is a setting of "Beautiful Saviou" by F. Melius Christiansen (1871-1955), director of the St Olav Choir (MN) from 1912-1944.
The service of Choral Evensong originated in 1549 with the first Book of Common Prayer for the Anglican Church. Composers have written settings of this liturgy and Anglican choirs throughout the world sing it regularly in cathedrals, churches and chapels. To some this service feels like a concert and others are drawn into the spiritual realm by the transcendent music. All are welcome to experience it in their own way. Trinity offers this service several times throughout the year.
Trinity is fully handicap-accessible.
