Feasibility Study Passes Carlisle Vote Hurdle

Committee Reorganizes; Carlisle voters pass high school feasibility study by wide margin at polls. Committee urges Concord voters to do the same on June 8.

The Concord-Carlisle Regional School Committee reorganized this week and Louis Salemy was elected chairman of the regional committee. Vice-chairman is Peter Fischelis who was not in attendance.

Salemy said he had "great news:" voters in Carlisle approved of a $1.3 million temporary tax increase, or debt exclusion, to pay for a feasibility study for Concord-Carlisle High School.

Committee member Jerry Wedge said the study is a byproduct of a master plan for the campus that was drawn up with the communities and the Massahusetts School Building Assistance board (MSBA).

Since the school is in a two-town regional district, both towns must vote at their respective Town Meetings and again at the ballot box to approve any amount that is outside the limits of prop 2 1/2 as the study would be.

The election is June 8. The feasibility study is the only ballot question. Salemy said Carlisle approved it by a 3-1 margin and he hopes for the same in Concord.

"We are moving forward," said Salemy. "Next year there will be a lot of work between the School Committee, building committee and MSBA."
