Fenn Hockey Continues Winning Ways

A round up of the week in Fenn sports.

The following announcement comes from Brenda Dupont on behalf of Fenn School athletics.

Coming off a second place finish in tournament play last week, the Varsity Hockey team on Wednesday continued its winning ways.  Will Robertson (Acton) scored twice, while Gavin Kennedy (Concord) and Jake Goorno (Sudbury) each connected for single tallies, as Fenn skated to an early lead over visiting Wellesley and never looked back.  Sam Hesler (Boxborough) contributed three assists in the 4-1 victory.

Hosting Winchester in a more physical game on Friday, Robertson again capitalized on his opportunities.  The high scoring centerman notched a hat trick, while Kennedy and Scott Correia (Wayland) also scored.  After Fenn's 5-1 victory, Coach Derek Boonisar credited his team's strong forechecking.

"Gates Dupont (Concord), Gordon Hargraves (Concord) and Reid Shilling (Lincoln) were outstanding in that area of the ice," said Boonisar.  "Matt Killian (Concord), Zeke Golnik (Carlisle) and Brendan Seifert (Concord) had solid games on defense, as well."

In JV Hockey, Fenn scored a 5-1 victory on Thursday at Shady Hill School.  Spencer Pava (Weston) and Mark Herdiech (Groton) each scored twice, while Dan Herdiech (Groton) netted a single tally in Fenn's second straight win.

In Varsity Basketball, Fenn started the month of February on a winning note, with a 47-33 victory on Wednesday at Shore.   Fenn held a five point advantage at the half and poured it on in the second half.  Austin Dorsey (Sudbury) led the way with 14 points.  The victory snapped Fenn's three-game losing streak.

Fenn hosted rival Fay on Friday, in what was a rematch from a week earlier.  Fenn trailed 33-19 at the half, but had a strong second half rally, which fell short.  Fay finished on top for the second straight Friday, this time 60-52 was the final.  Austin Hoey (Concord) had a game high 22 points, while Dorsey collected 17.  Coach Peter Bradley's team hosts the Fenn Basketball Touranment on Saturday.

Fenn's JV Basketball team dropped a 37-27 decision to Shady Hill on Monday.  Mark Russell (Westford) and Eddie Uong (Lowell) led Fenn offensively, while Cormac Zachar (Concord) and Maahin Gulati (Weston) were outstanding defensively.
