About Jean Moscariello, Concord’s Hidden Treasure
Jean Moscariello an exceptionally talented and imaginative artist who has been contributing her work for a great many years to the Concord community her extraordinary creativity and talent of sewing, crewel embroidery, quilts, wall hangings, stuffed animals, doll clothes, pillows, pot holders, placemats, Christmas stockings / tree ornaments and the list goes on and on.
Jean is as talented as she is humble. Some of her neighbors and fellow Concordians know of her as the lady who has two decorative ducks on her front lawn who are dressed in costumes that are appropriate for the season or holiday. Of course, she makes these costumes.

She spends a great deal of time throughout the year sewing, embroidering, quilting and working on many other sewing projects that are sold at the UNITED WOMAN’S CLUB OF CONCORD - SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISING FAIR ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF DECEMBER, this year on December 1st. at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center. The holiday scholarship fundraising fair has become a Concord tradition for the 20 plus years. Each year the proceeds from the fair are awarded as scholarships to three college bound seniors from the Concord-Carlisle High School.
In a time when sewing circles are no longer a way of life, Jean brings together club members together where everyone experiences a great feeling of comradery and generosity. For example, Emerson Hospital Auxiliary volunteers began to craft puppets to give joy and comfort to Emerson’s pediatric patients in the 1984; this hugely successful project still exists today, providing handcrafted teddy bears. Each month, on the last Tuesday, Jean puts on a pot of coffee and guides ladies from the United Woman’s Club of Concord as they put together teddy bears. She sets up her kitchen with a row of tables, creates an assembly line of cutting, sewing, stuffing (with love) and embroidering teddy bears. The teddy bears are given to the youngest pediatric patients at Emerson Hospital in Coping Kits by the Pediatric Intervention Team. These Coping Kits provide comfort and distraction for the patient as well as the parents, enhancing the patient experience.

In May 2018 the Concord Council on Aging honored Jean’s work on their walls where artists display their work. This wall space is appropriately named as “Art Space”
Jean Moscariello’s beautiful collection of needlework art was on display in May 2018. When asked to give a little bit of history of her love of crafting, she explained that thirty years ago, Jean took a course in crewel embroidery, which is done with wool yarn, and enjoyed it so much that she has had a project in the works ever since.
In addition, Jean’s teddy bears were displayed in the window of the Concord Bookstore as part of the Verrill Farm “In Our Community Window” annual Harvest Festival & Benefit for Emerson Hospital's Pediatric Care Unit
But she did not stop at embroidery. She went on to creating outstanding pieces of wall hangings including one that is a quilt decorated in many things that make it impossible not to recognize a sense of Broadway. This quilt boasts white glove, beads, one of a kind buttons, lace and many more accessories that make it a truly one of a kind piece of art.
That is just one small example of her imagination. Even though Jean is a long time practicing Christian, she took the time to learn about The Dreidel Game, created a pattern of the symbols and sewed a wall hanging quilt complete with the Hebrew symbols that are found on the four sides of the dreidel.
Jean will once again display her outstanding variety of work at the ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP HOLIDAY FAIR ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1ST FROM 9:30 TO 2. Anyone who purchases one of her creations for a holiday present, a hostess gift or to enjoy for themselves will take away with them a small piece of a long time Concord’s artist.
We welcome volunteers to help to make the fair a huge success. For additional information or if you wish to volunteer at the fair, please call Lisa Fay at 617-327-8159.
