Library Director Plans Fall Events
Kerry Cronin reports on a booming summer reading program and more.

From Kerry Cronin: Welcome back Concord Readers! As the summer winds down and the school year begins, it is great to greet many residents returning to the area after summer vacations.
Before our fall activities commence, I want to take a moment to congratulate our summer readers of all ages: 174 children read 115,097 minutes over the course of the summer and 28 teens submitted 818 book reviews.
Go Green - Think Green, the library's inaugural reading program for adults, proved a successful complement to the Youth Department's activities with 216 written book reviews submitted and 87 people in attendance at the three related programs on organic gardening, calculating your carbon footprint and composting. The program culminated in a lovely garden party for summer readers on August 12th where participants talked about their favorite summer reads, shared eco tips, and/or swapped items from their gardens.
The Music On the Lawn concert series drew 450 residents who enjoyed music featuring Veronica Robles, Jah Spirit and Roger Ticknell.
We are grateful to the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library and all of our sponsors (Concord DPW, Vanderhoof Hardware, Nashoba Bakery, Debra's Natural Gourmet, the West Concord 5 and 10 and the Concord Bookshop) for making these programs possible.
Survey deadline extended for wider participation
In order to ensure the widest participation for our planning survey, the survey will remain live on our web site through the month of September. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to offer your suggestions to help shape future library services. Thanks to all who have completed the survey to date.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Library this fall.
