Patriot Topples Record at Swim State Meet
O'Brien continues dominance with record-breaking performance.

Much as he was the past two years, diver Sean O’Brien was the star of the show for the Concord-Carlisle boys’ swimming and diving team at the MIAA Division 2 state meet at Harvard University.
O’Brien, a junior, captured the 1-meter individual state championship and set a new state record in the event to help the Patriots finished third as a team with 111 points. King Philip Regional of Wrentham won with 178 points, while Weston High School was second with 172.
But the story of the day for C-C was once again O’Brien. Two years ago as a sophomore, he set the state record in the 1 meter. Last year, he set a new meet record. This year he topped them all.

O’Brien scored 639.65 in the 1 meter finals, more than 100 points better than Longmeadow’s Micah Rembrandt (520.10). The Patriot senior’s score bested his previous state record mark of 622.35, set on Feb. 14, 2009, and the 560.75 he scored at last year’s meet.
C-C’s Nick Luther finished ninth in the 1 meter with a score of 351.70.

The event was the only to see a state record fall. But O’Brien wasn’t done with his contributions just yet. He also swam a leg for the 200-yard medley relay team that finished ninth (1 minute, 45.06 seconds). Also on the team were Seth Bird, Will Banfield and Trevor Castrichini.
Senior Drew Andre also captured an individual title, finishing first in the 50 freestyle in 21.91 seconds. He barely edged King Philip’s Aaron Gustafson, who finished in 21.92. Castrichini placed 11th (22.75) to also score in the event.
Andre was also second in the 100 freestyle in 47.73.
Both Andre and Castrichini were members of the 200 freestyle relay that took second place in 1:29.06. They were joined by Will Banfield and Sebastian Key.
Castrichini, Andre, Bird and Key also swam the 400 freestyle relay together. They joined to finish in 3:20.63 and finish second and round out C-C’s performance.
