Patriots Clinch Dual County League Small Title

The Girls Lacrosse team earned their second consecutive DCL Small Division 1 Championship on Thursday with a 19-3 victory over Bedford High School at Doug White Field. The Patriot victory, coupled with a 10-9 Weston victory over Wayland, allowed the Patriots to win their first outright league championship since 2009. Last season CCHS shared the title with Weston

The CCHS Attack was lead by Sophomore Allie Barrett with 4 goals, 2 assists, 5 draw controls, and three ground balls. Jill Carlton added to her impressive Senior season chipping in with 4 goals and 4 assists. Seven other Patriot players got in on the scoring which included tallies from Jessie Castelline (2 goals, 3 draw controls, 2 caused turnovers), Josie Morrison (1 goal, 3 assists), Emma Brandhorst (4 goals), Jenna Carlton (3 goals, 1 assist), Becca Olsen (2 goals), Kate Wyeth (1 goal, 1 assist), Caroline Donelan (1 goal, 1 ground ball pick up), and Lexie Goodhue (1 goal).

The Patriots were as impressive on defense holding Bedford to three goals, after allowing the Buccaneers to score sixteen back on April 12^th.  Senior Jenny Robinson was the standout defender with 1 draw control, 2 ground balls, and 1 caused turnover. Robinson was assisted by, Caitie Standish (2 ground balls), Annie Bannon (1 ground ball), Caroline Guild (2 ground balls), Marin Epstein, and Emma Mahoney.  Greta White (5 saves, 2 interceptions) started in goal for the Patriots and was relieved by Maddie Holmes (1 save)

Coach Paul Morrison reflected on the win and the division title. “One of the team goals we set at the beginning of the season was to win the DCL Small title outright. After losing a heartbreaker to Wayland on Tuesday we weren’t sure if that would happen, but we took care of business today, and things fell into place with Weston upsetting Wayland. The team should be proud of this championship. We had hotly contested games with all of our division opponents. In the first Bedford game they gave us all we could handle (an 18-16 Patriot win), but today things went our way early. It’s never easy to coach a team in a game like that, win or lose. The upside of this one for us is that everyone from our team played a lot of minutes, and it was good to see so many kids get the chance to succeed.”
