Smart Grid Arriving Oct. 12

Phase 1 Network Construction

The municipal light plant is informing residents that the department will begin construction of the Smart Grid Phase 1 network on Oct. 12. Citizens can refer to the Concord Light web link below for scheduling information, a listing of streets affected in each phase, and to monitor the progress of the Smart Grid project click here.

Concord residents passed Article 20 at the spring Town Meeting on April 27, 2009 approving installation and deployment of a complex array of fiber optic network and Smart Grid systems.

These systems will provide the load management, homeowner web interface and other energy conservation programs called for under the article.

Construction of Concord's Smart Grid will be divided into four phases. Each phase is organized so that completion of the fiber optic network will lead to deployment of Smart Grid infrastructure. This will allow for an early rollout of energy conservation features to citizens in each of the specific areas represented by a particular phase.
