Sports Week in Review, Feb. 19 - Feb. 25

C-C swimming and diving and Nordic ski teams kick off the winter championship season.

The winter high school athletic championship season is upon us, and the Concord-Carlisle High School boys’ and girls’ Nordic ski teams and the boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams kicked off the festivities with stellar performance.

At the MIAA Division 2 state meet, the Patriot boys’ and girls’ squads each placed third at Harvard University in Cambridge.

The story of the weekend was the of junior diver Sean O’Brien. He captured his third straight individual state title in the 1-meter event, scoring 639.65. That was also good enough to set a new state record.

In the girls’ event, much of the Patriots’ success was due to their . C-C placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay, fourth in the 200 medley relay and seventh in the 400 freestyle relay.

Not to be outdone, the boys’ and girls’ Nordic teams at their state meet. C-C’s boys were fourth and the girls placed fifth. Olivia Meyerson placed second in the girls’ race and Chris Burnham was third in the boys’ race.

On Friday, the C-C boys’ basketball team in the MIAA North Division 2 sectional tournament. The Patriots earned the No. 9 spot when pairings were announced and will take on Brighton High School at Boston Latin Academy on Wednesday.

Also recently, the to Lincoln-Sudbury. Coach Lauran MacAuliffe wasn’t pleased with the outcome, but was certain the Patriots would be ready when the sectional tournament begins.
