A recap of the games and stories Patch covered in and around Concord this week.

It’s that time of the year when the summer sports are winding down and it’s almost time to crank up the fall season and start thinking about high school sports again — just a couple days until the start of camp.
But, before we’re too quick to fast-forward through the rest of the summer, Patch for the Concord Post 158 Amercian Legion baseball team. After starting the season on a high note, the team struggled through much of the second half of the season.
In the consolation postseason, Post 158 lost two straight to make a quick exit from the Chairman’s Cup. Despite their struggles, coach John Morrissey said he hoped the Concord players were still able to get something out of the summer season.

Also this week, Patch , the Concord-Carlisle baseball coach, professional pitcher and instructor extraordinaire. Kelly would probably have something to say about the early “season winding down” comment, because for him, there’s no such thing as a dull period.
Kelly is going 24-7-365 when it comes to baseball, a sport that has kept him plenty busy even before spending the past 18 seasons as a professional, nine in independent leagues, and the past five as C-C’s coach.
