Sports Week in Review: June 4 - 10

A recap look at the games and stories Patch covered in and around Lexington this week.

athletic teams continued play in the MIAA sectional tournaments this week. Some furthered their championship aspirations, while others had their dreams dashed too soon.

Last Friday, the second-seeded C-C boys’ lacrosse with a victory over No. 18 North Andover in the East Division 2. The Patriots jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back.

On Wednesday, the Patriots over No. 7 Sandwich High School in the Quarterfinal round. Sandwich tied the score in the fourth quarter, but C-C picked up the eventual game-winner late in regulation.

Then, this Friday, the C-C squad punched their ticket for a return trip to Harvard Stadium for the East D-2 championship game. The Patriots defeated No. 3 Hingham in three overtimes in the Semifinals and will take on No. 9 Medfield in the sectional championship on Monday.

The C-C girls’ lacrosse team was also . But the No. 3 Patriots in the North D-1 Semifinal round on Wednesday. Host L-S beat the visiting Patriots by 15 goals.

On Monday, the No. 5 Concord-Carlisle No. 13 Melrose in the North Division 2 Quarterfinal. But the Patriots’ season ended a few days later when No. 1 Winchester ousted C-C with a 4-1 victory.

Also Monday, the No. 6 C-C boys’ tennis team with a loss to No. 3 Newton South in the Quarterfinal round of the North D-1 tourney.
