Update: Library Happenings; Track Fundraiser
Happenings at the library; come out and support this CCHS Track and Field Fundraiser.

I think you already know by now how I feel about our library – and if you don’t, well, I love it like no other. And the following upcoming workshops for kids are just some of the many reasons; two require registration ahead of time, which is why I’m telling you about them now.
Clay Wall Decorations: Donna Pioli will be at the Fowler Library on Monday, July 25 at 7 pm, for all you fun people in West Concord who have a blank space on your walls. You can register your child at the library’s website, www.concordlibrary.org.
Cake Decorating: This is one I can really get my teeth into! Dan Charbonneau will teach kids how to decorate their own cakes, so you can stop ordering those expensive ones from the grocery store. Ok, maybe not, but they WILL learn how to do cool things with frosting, and they can eat their creations. It’s Monday, August 8, at 7 pm; register at www.concordlibrary.org.

Throughout the summer, the library will offer Knitting for Teens every Tuesday evening at 7 pm at the Main Library, no registration required. Kids can bring something they’re working on and get advice and tips, or be reminded how to cast on or cast off, or learn what those knitting terms even mean.
And lastly, while you’re making your summer plans, mark your calendars for a Teen Movie event on Friday, August 19 at the Main Library at 6:30 pm, and an incoming 6th Grade Social Mixer on Wednesday, August 24 at 4 pm, at the Fowler Library. If you simply cannot wait and must have more information on this, you can contact Fiona Stevenson at Tea44@comcast.net.

So what are you doing to start your weekend? Got some big plans for Friday night? Thinking of eating a pizza or grabbing some beers with friends? Maybe take in a movie?
I have a better idea: head down to and run a mile for a cause. It’s only a mile, which my daughter who runs tells me is very short. Hardly enough to work up a sweat. Really, not even enough to work off the pizza and beer you know you’ll be scarfing down later.
The CCHS Track and Field Team are sponsoring the third annual Adrian Martinez Classic, so named for 2002 CCHS grad Adrian Martinez, who had a passion for distance running. Every run (and there are five divisions) is only a mile long. Sheesh, I’ve WALKED farther than that. It starts at 5:00 with a youth race, for kids from ten and under up to age eighteen, and ends with an elite race, in which (apparently, because I’ve never actually attended) the best “milers” in New England will try breaking four minutes. In between there’s a First Timer’s Mile, for anyone who has never run a track mile before, as well as Masters’ and Seniors’ races, and Men’s and Women’s Open Divisions. Very exciting stuff!!
There are prizes, as well as the glory for just having finished, and the money raised goes to the Adrian Martinez Scholarship Fund at CCHS. They are looking for people to run, so grab some friends and start your weekend off right.
Festivities begin at 5:00 at Emerson Track, and if you want to register, or just want more information, go to www.martinezclassic.com. I would run myself, but I have tickets that night. Otherwise, I would be there. Running. Really.
