No Police Incidents at Birthday
Reflecting on the gala 375th weekend, Town Manager Chris Whelan said the police had an easy time of it, with no incidents to report "of any kind," Whelan said. Though hundreds of people lined the streets for the parade and an equal number went to the fireworks display on Sunday, there were no accidents that made it to the police. Even the traffic moved smoothly, as shuttle buses were deployed.

Sidewalks will become a reality on Lowell Road starting this season with "preliminary work," Chris Whelan said, and work in earnest in the spring. Middlesex School has contributed $150,000 towards the project that will extend sidewalks from the school end into Concord Center.
Turf War
Citing "growing pains," Chris Whelan said the company that was to replace the turf at the new high school field "has changed hands" and has yet to perform the replacement. The original turf had an abundance of noxious chemical substances and the company said it would replace it. But that isn't happening, Whelan said. He hoped the work would be done this fall, but "the schedule has changed." He has no firm date from the company.
Pole position
The municipal light plant petitioned the selectmen to relocate a pole in West Concord as part of the Fowler Library renovation project. The pole cuts into a neighbor's driveway and needed to be moved about 10 feet up Main Street. The selectmen granted the petition.
