Updated Water Advisory

Concord Public Works would like to thank all of our customers for conserving water resources by reducing outdoor water use during the past two months.  Your willingness to voluntarily regulate excessive use during this period of extreme heat and drought has made a difference.  Based on feedback received to date, we believe the following clarification and update may be helpful.       

First and foremost, seasonally high water demands are directly related to changes in outdoor water use – not residential indoor water use.  As such, while we always advocate for wise and responsible indoor water use, this recent water use advisory is not targeting such behavior or practices. 

We are asking all customers to continue to refrain from lawn watering so that we can continue to avoid more restrictive outdoor water use bans. 

We do recognize that some outdoor water use may be necessary to protect trees, shrubs and garden plants, and we expect our customers to use their best judgment as to what outdoor water is essential. The benefit of a voluntary water advisory is that it allows customers to make those decisions for themselves. 

The need to call for an outright ban on municipal water for all outdoor use is serious and will only be made if absolutely necessary to provide the water that is needed for essential uses by all our customers, including firefighting and indoor water use. 

Unless we see a significant change in weather, our water supply and demand situation will remain tenuous.  Until such time, we will continue to ask for your support in reducing unnecessary outdoor water use.
