Yin Yu Tang, a 200-year-old Chinese house will be the topic of the United Woman’s Club of Concord (UWCC) meeting on Thursday, November 19th, at noon, at the West Concord Union Church.

Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) is a wonderful museum of international art and cultural history with 30 galleries, historic houses, period gardens. In the spring of 1997 the curator of Chinese art at the PEM began the process to bring the Huang family Chinese House - Huang Yin Yu Tang (Hall of Plentiful Shelter) from China’s Anhui Province to be exhibited at the PEM.

This 200-year-old house (built around 1800), was subsequently dismantled, shipped to the U.S. and reassembled at PEM in Salem, Massachusetts, eventually opening it to the public in June 2003.

The PEM Docent Roberta Neuman will share with us the intricate details of transporting the Yin Yu Tang (Hall of Plentiful Shelter) house to the US. She will also speak about the members of the 28th generation of the Huang family who accumulated their fortune during the Qing Dynasty, Kangxi reign (1662–1722) by being successful as pawnbrokers in Shanghai and Hankou.
