Voices of Concord Tell Stories

Vox Concordia hosts a night of story-telling over town birthday weekend.

An impressive list of speakers highlights the evening entertainment at the Vox Concordia presentation on Sept. 10 at Concord-Carlisle High School.

The so-called voices of Concord include authors, and noted professionals who will tell about a 10 minute story each, and a musical group will perform in mid-session, said Chris Curtis, the Storm Chaser, who is one of the participants.

"Ten interesting people from Concord are going on stage to tell a story," said Curtis. The event starts at 7 p.m., and seating will commence at 6:15 p.m.

Curtis said he attended a dinner for all Vox Concordia participants.

"I was blown away by the people involved," he said. "I am greatly looking forward to this special event."

Curtis, manager of the West Concord 5 & 10 has chased tornados in Oklahoma and South Dakota on his annual vacations.

"I've seen 41 storms," he said, over the course of seven years of meeting up with other like-minded people. "There was even one in West Concord that lasted about 15 seconds, but it was a violent few seconds."

Curtis will be joined on the stage by Nancy Traversy, owner of Barefoot Books, Gregory Maguire, author of "Wicked," and other plays and books, Nancy Hendrie, pediatrician and founder of a nonprofit school in Cambodia; Radha Jalan, a speaker on fuel cells; farmer Steve Verrill; Nancy Nelson, superintendent of the Minute Man National Historical Park; Tom First, founder of the Juice Guys; Paul Macone, retired Concord police lieutenant; John Muresianu, the "what matters guy," Doris and Dick Goodwin, and Ed Wilson, a "green CEO."

The musical interlude will include Japanese drums in a performance of Taiko After Dark.

Rick Cleary is the Vox Concordia founder and promoter, Curtis said. The event is free, but the high school auditorium holds 600, and seating is first come, first served.
