Republicans and Independents can cast ballots

Tuesday, Sept. 14 is the primary election that will solidify party nominees for several offices in the districts.

For state senate, Chelmsford Republicans Eric Dahlberg is facing off against Sandi Martinez. A list of their endorsements is listed under government announcements on this website.

The winner of the primary will face incumbent Senator Susan Fargo (D-Lincoln), who has served for many years. Fargo does not have a Democratic challenger.

The 3rd Middlesex District includes Bedford, Chelmsford, Concord, Carlisle, Lincoln, precincts in Lexington and Sudbury, Waltham and Weston.

State representative candidates are Democrat Cory Atkins and Independent K.C. Winslow. There is no primary for those parties in this district.

Polls open at 7 a.m. in Concord. There are neighborhood precincts at which to cast your ballot. If you are an Independent, you can become a Republican for the vote, then switch back to Independent status at the polling place.

Polls close at 8 p.m. Results will be posted as soon as the ballots are counted in the various communities.

The state election is Nov. 2 where there is only one ballot. Registered Republicans may only receive their party's ballot in a primary. Unenrolled, or independent, voters may choose any of of the party ballots, although for Sept. 14, there are no Democrats running against each other.

Those who are registered in a Political Designation (Green Rainbow) will not be choosing candidates at this state primary so they are not eligible to vote.
