2012 DHS Class President Excels in Academics, Athletics

Emily Hodgkins, 2010 Senior Class President, urges fellow students to get involved in extracurriculars.

This week’s Whiz Kid is incoming Senior Class President Emily Hodgkins. Hodgkins has been voted into the class presidency every year of high school, is the Model UN Secretary and will enter her senior year in the top ten percent of her class.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, the World Language National Honor Society, and serves as treasurer of the National English Honor Society.

Although her academics are exemplary, she is extremely active in extra-curricular activities, also. She participates in the business club DECA, and for two years was a finalist in the national competition. She is also the editor of the Danvers High School Newspaper: The Flying Onion, and The Library Page.

This talented senior is competitive outside of the classroom, as a two sport athlete. She is captain of both the swim and tennis teams. Amazingly, she performs all of these duties while maintaining  a part time job as a cashier at

As for her keys to success, Hodgkins credits her skills with time management as having the greatest impact on her achievements both in and out of the classroom.

“I’m a big procrastinator,” she admitted. “So learning how to manage my time really helped me succeed. I just made sure that at the end of each day I had completed everything that I needed to for the next morning. Successful time management is key in high school academics.”
