Alleged North Shore Serial Bank Robber Arrested

A Danvers man was arrested trying to hit a store in Stoneham, police said.

STONEHAM, MA — A Danvers man suspected of robbing from four banks on the North Shore recently was arrested before he could allegedly hit one in Stoneham, police said. Justin Hanlon, 28, was arrested and charged with attempting to commit a crime. He was nabbed as he approached the entrance of the Citizens Bank inside a Stop & Shop on Main Street.

Hanlon was arrested wearing a hooded sweatshirt, baseball cap, sunglasses, and blue gloves - it's the same get-up surveillance video of other bank robberies have shown a suspect wear.

Hanlon was being surveilled by law enforcement agencies, including Stoneham, Danvers, Beverly, Woburn, Winchester, Reading, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, and State Police K-9 units. He was wanted for allegedly robbing three banks in Danvers and one in Beverly.

"The level of cooperation we enjoy in this region enables the Stoneham Police Department and our surrounding communities to better react to acts of crime and prevent crime trends from turning into outright crime sprees," Stoneham Police Chief James McIntyre said. "In this case, the suspect’s alleged actions were noticed by a group of trained professionals, and he was stopped in his tracks today."

Hanlon will be arraigned Monday in Woburn District Court.
