Danvers will host its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Danvers High School parking lot on Cabot Road.
The town said the event is free for Danvers residents and gives people a place to safely dispose of old paints, cleaners and chemicals.
The event is a drop-off only program. There will be no curbside pickup. Residents are asked to load materials into a car, drive up and open the trunk for collection.
Trident Environmental Group will be on-site to help with collection and disposal, and Department of Public Works staff will direct residents during the event.
The town said accepted items include chemical fertilizers, pesticides and pool chemicals, along with antifreeze, gasoline and waste oil, up to 5 gallons.
Household and drain cleaners, plus oil-based paints and stains, also will be accepted.
A full list of accepted materials is available on the town's Household Hazardous Waste page.
Propane tanks, NiCad or lithium batteries and fluorescent bulbs can be dropped off at the Transfer Station during regular business hours and will not be accepted at the recycling event.
Electronics are collected curbside with a bulk item sticker or during Zero Waste Recycling Events.
Latex paint will not be accepted.
The town said residents should dry it out with kitty litter or paint hardener, then place it with regular trash or bring it to the Transfer Station during normal hours.
Non-residents must contact ebisconti@danversma.gov for pricing and payment information.
Commercial waste and commercial vehicles will not be accepted.
Residents should be ready to show a driver's license or other identification. Residents also must remain in their vehicles at all times.
Questions about the event can be directed to the DPW at 978-777-0001 x3011.
