Beverly Man Arrested on Drunk Driving Charge

A 54-year-old Beverly man was scheduled to be arraigned in Salem District Court on Wednesday on drunk driving charges after he swerved in his vehicle and struck a utility pole about 10:30 Tuesday morning in the area of 74 Water Street in Danvers, according to authorities.

The pole snapped in half, and the accident forced the closure of Water Street at Endicott Street on one end and Cheever/Mill Street on the other end for several hours.

John W. Marrs, 54, of Beverly, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor. He was not injured, according to police.

Verizon was notified.
