Dine at TGI Fridays Today and Support Bombing Victims

Today is Thursday, June 20. Here are five things to know today in Danvers.

  1. One Fund Boston: TGI Fridays is supporting friends and family members affected by the Boston Marathon bombing by donating 10 percent of all sales today at its Boston area restaurants, including the one in Danvers on Route 1, to the One Fund Boston.
  2. Promotions: Four veteran members of the Danvers Fire Department will be officially sworn in to their new posts today at the Senior Center. The ceremony is at 6 p.m. The promotions are for Deputy Chief James McPherson, Captain P. James Brooks, Captain Robert Amerault and Lieutenant James Shafner.
  3. Water and sewer rates: The Danvers Board of Water & Sewer Commissioners will hold a public hearing tonight to set new water and sewer rates in town. The hearing will take place at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Department of Public Works' business office at 2 Burroughs St.
  4. Town boards today: The Danvers Committee for Diversity meets this evening (6 p.m.) Calitri's. You can find the agenda here. The Rail Trail Advisory Committee meets at the Senior Center (6 p.m.) You can find the agenda here. The Danvers Recreation Committee also meets at the Senior Center (7 p.m.).   5. The Danvers Family Festival is in full swing this weekYou can check out the schedule here online. Two family-friendly events coming up on Saturday are the annual Touch-a-Truck at the Liberty Tree Mall and Danvers Kiwanis is holding its bicycle safety rodeo. Stop by the rear parking lot at the mall between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to check out the trucks and other vehicles. There is no admission, but donations are suggested and all proceeds will go toward The One Fund Boston. The first 100 people who attend will also get a fireman's hat. And over at the Great Oak School parking lot from 9 a.m. - noon, Kiwanis and Beverly Hospital will be talking about bicycle safety and proper helmet use, testing helmets and there will be a skills course for anyone who wants to try. Bike and helmet fitting will be done by Beverly Hospital Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation staff and safety testing stations will check out brakes, tire pressure, gears, and tighten all nuts and bolts.
